Asantehene, King Charles to collaborate to reclaim galamsey-ravaged lands
The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has said that he will be collaborating with King Charles III to reclaim lands destroyed by illegal mining (galamsey) in Ghana. He said while in London for the coronation of King Charles , he had private discussions with the British Monarch on land reclamation.
At the end of the discussions, King Charles accepted to collaborate with him to undertake the reclamation.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu made this known when he launched the 2023 edition of the Green Ghana Day in Kumasi on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.
“A couple of days ago, I returned from London where I attended the coronation of King Charles III whose number one legacy is perhaps his commitment to afforestation, reforestation and the fight against climate change.
“Interestingly, my discussions with him were on land reclamation in Ghana.
We have discussions on that and he has accepted to collaborate with me for us to do that,” Otumfuo stated.
Technical teams
The Asantehene said his technical team and that of King Charles will meet to craft a policy on the reclamation.
“He has directed his technical team to meet with mine so we can direct a policy to help Ghana restore some of our lands that have been destroyed by galamsey”.
Background
