Asantehene destools Offinsohemaa for misconduct and disobedience

The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has destooled the Offinsohemaa, Nana Ama Serwaa Nyarko for gross misconduct and disobedience.

Otumfuo pronounced the destoolment when the new Omanhene of Offinso, Nana Dwamena Akenten II appeared before the Asanteman Council at its first meeting at the Manhyia Palace in Kumasi on Thursday, January 11, 2024, to swear an oath of allegiance to Otumfuo.

She was found to have deliberately refused summons; by the Asantehene to appear before the Asanteman Council in respect of the Offinso chieftaincy matters.

Following the death of the immediate past Offinsohene, Nana Wiafe Akenten III, the queenmother nominated former Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC), Dr K.K. Sarpong as the next Omanhene but he was rejected by the Asantehene because contrary to his claims, he was not a member of the Ahyirem Royal Family.

Several invitations extended to the queenmother to appear before the Asanteman Council was turned down , eventually leading to her destoolment.
