Ambulance Trial: Attorney General Floors Ato Forson, Jakpa; Sings Praises To God
After he floored Minority Leader, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, and businessman, Richard Jakpa in court on Thursday, June 6, 2024, Attorney General (A-G), Godfred Yeboah Dame, could not help but sing a song of praise to God for the victory.
The High Court, Accra, ruling on four applications by the accused persons for mistrial and enquiry into the conduct of the A-G in the ambulance trial, following a leaked tape capturing him with some comments, dismissed the applications.
No legal basis
The presiding judge, Justice Afia Serwah Asare Botwe, a Justice of the Court of Appeal sitting as an additional High Court Judge, said no legal basis exists to allow an enquiry into the conduct of a prosecutor.
Dr Forson and Jakpa, both filed the applications based on stated misconduct of the A-G raising issues they claim are proof of egregious violations or attempted violations of their right to a fair trial in violation of the constitutional responsibility of the prosecution.
I will continue prosecution
Although the judge advised the A-G to recuse himself from the prosecution of the case in the best interest of the justice delivery, Mr Dame said the judge’s comment was merely a suggestion, and therefore decided to proceed with the prosecution.
Song of praise
After the ruling, an elated Mr Dame told journalists, “Today when I was coming, I had a song in my spirit.”
He then sang the song, “Head of Thy Church triumphant,
We joyfully adore Thee;
Till Thou appear, Thy members here
Shall sing like those in glory:
We lift our hearts and voices
With blest anticipation,
And cry aloud, and give to God
The praise of our salvation.”
