All set for Otumfuo’s lecture on ‘Asante Culture And Heritage’ in London today

The stage is set for Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II to deliver a lecture at the British Museum in London today. He will speak on the topic, “Asante Culture And Heritage: Past And Present”.

V&A Museum
Ahead of today’s event, the King had been involved in some acvities in London. On Thursday, July 18, the Asantehene paid a visit to the Victoria & Albert (V&A) Museum where he held talks with the Director of the Meseum, Tristram Hunt.

With the Asantehene were Ivor Agyeman-Duah, a special advisor of the King, and other officials from the Manhyia Palace. Also present were some officials of the museum.

Awukudae
On Wednesday, July 17, His Majesty held a mini durbar at his Henley residence in the United Kingdom, to mark the 5th Awukudae of the year.

Present were chiefs including Oyokohene Nana Agyekum Ababio, Asamponghene Kwabena Owusu Korkoh, Dominasehene Baffour Yaw Boateng and Bebrehene Nana Atta Kyeremateng. The King sat in state to receive homage from his subjects, including members of Asanteman UK and Ireland.

Unity
In a brief speech, the Asantehene urged Asantes in the diaspora to live in unity. He also urged their leaders to avoid lording over the others. Rather, he advised them to be humble so that others can put their concerns before them for redress. “If you become truthful to yourselves, there will always be peace within your community,” he counseled them.

Athenaeum dinner
Later in the evening, Athenaeum, a private members’ club in London, held a dinner in honour of Otumfuo. Joining the King at the dinner was former President John Agyekum Kufuor; Ghana High Commissioner to the UK, Papa Owusu Ankomah and Ivor Agyeman-Duah.
