Akwatia By-Election: Sammi Awuku Urges Police to Ensure Safety, Not Fear

The Member of Parliament for Akuapem North, Sammi Awuku, has called on the Ghana Police Service to ensure that the ongoing by-election in Akwatia is conducted peacefully and without intimidation.
Speaking to journalists in Akwatia on Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Mr. Awuku said the presence of security personnel in the constituency should help guarantee an orderly process.
“With the heavy security presence in and around Akwatia, the election should be orderly as expected. We also hope that the police will play their role as protectors of the process. And not to become an instrument of intimidation,” he said.
Mr. Awuku also raised concerns about allegations of vote buying but noted the difficulty in substantiating such claims.
“We have various allegations of vote buying. But it’s difficult to sometimes get proof of some of these things. So, I don’t normally dwell on that. What we are concentrating our effort on is to make sure we’re vigilant. Our candidate has expressed some level of satisfaction with the process so far,” he stated.
He further indicated that the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, was satisfied with the process so far and expressed optimism about the outcome.
“By the close of polls, we expect that the constituents should do what is right, and just by their conscience. I’m hoping that NPP’s candidate will emerge victorious at the end of the day,” he emphasised.
