Akwatia by-election: Dr. Bawumia rallies support for Solomon Kwame Asumadu

Former Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has thrown his weight behind the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) parliamentary candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, as the Akwatia Constituency prepares for a crucial by-election scheduled for Tuesday.
Dr. Bawumia, who initially visited the constituency on Friday for the one-week observance of the late MP Ernest Kumi, returned on Sunday to actively campaign for the NPP. His outreach commenced with visits to local churches, where he introduced Asumadu to congregants and lauded his dedication to the community.
In addition to church engagements, Bawumia joined the candidate in paying a courtesy call on the Kusiman Hene, Nana Ntiamoah Kusi Boadu. Together, they toured several communities within Akwatia, engaging residents and urging them to offer strong support for the NPP ticket.
Addressing community members, Bawumia emphasised the importance of continuity in development, appealing to voters to back Solomon Kwame Asumadu and sustain the legacy of the late Ernest Kumi.
“I urge you to support Solomon Kwame Asumadu so that together we can continue the good works and legacy of our beloved Ernest Kumi,” he said.
The by-election came about after the sudden passing of Ernest Kumi and has elicited intense competition between the two major political parties, the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
The NPP’s candidate, Solomon Kwame Asumadu, a 40-year-old licensed small-scale miner also known as Owusu, is vying to carry forward the mandate, while the NDC has fielded Bernard Bediako, a legal practitioner seeking to reclaim the seat for his party.
