Aftermath of gory Okyereko accident: Gov’t asked to prioritize dualisation of roads
The deadly accident that claimed 16 lives on the Accra – Cape Coast road on Tuesday has reignited calls for the dualisation of the major highways in the country.
Successive governments had made unfulfilled promises to dualise roads like Accra-Kumasi, Accra-Cape Coast-Takoradi and Accra-Ho, a development that had led to increased vehicular collisions on the roads.
Social media
Social media was awash with calls on the government to prioritize the dualisation of the roads. On Facebook, many people expressed concern about the persistent head-on collisions on the roads, which had claimed several lives.
They said once the roads are single carriageway, such accidents were bound to happen. Consequently, they suggested that the government invest resources in improving the road infrastructure, more especially by converting the single carriageways into dual carriageways.
