Afenyo-Markin Urges NPP Presidential Hopefuls to Campaign with Unity and Respect

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has congratulated all five aspirants who have successfully filed their nominations to contest in the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) upcoming presidential primaries.
The NPP’s Presidential Elections Committee earlier confirmed that five aspirants had completed and submitted their nomination forms. They are:
1. Ing. Kwabena Agyei Agyepong
2. Hon. Ken Ohene Agyapong
3. Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong
4. H.E. Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia
5. Hon. Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum
The party’s internal elections are scheduled for Saturday, January 31, 2026, to select a flagbearer for the 2028 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Thursday, August 28, the Effutu MP praised the aspirants for taking what he described as an “important step in deepening our internal democracy and strengthening the party’s traditions.”
“I extend my warm congratulations to all the five (5) Presidential Aspirants of the New Patriotic Party (NPP: Development in Freedom) who have successfully filed and submitted their nomination forms,” he wrote.
Mr. Afenyo-Markin also appealed to the aspirants and their supporters to prioritise unity and respect throughout the campaign process.
“As we move into the next phase of the process, I urge all aspirants and their supporters to conduct their campaigns with decorum, unity, and mutual respect,” he said.
“Let us avoid divisive tendencies and remain focused on the bigger goal of building a stronger NPP and advancing our national development.”
He ended the post with a nod to the NPP’s party symbol, writing: “Indeed, the ELEPHANT is a winning symbol!”
