Running mate slot: “Youth backed NAPO strongly; let’s not rush to make changes” – Freddie Blay to NPP

Former National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Freddie Blay, has cautioned against hasty decisions to alter the party’s current leadership ticket, particularly the role of Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh (NAPO) as running mate.
Speaking on AsaasePa 107.3’s Atumpan programme, Blay noted that the youth wing of the party had shown strong support for NAPO during the 2024 election campaign.
“A lot of the young people were solidly behind him,” he told the host Bonohene Baffour Awuah adding that, “I don’t think we should do any changes.”
His remarks come in the wake of internal post-election reflections within the NPP, following their loss in the December 2024 polls. Some party members have raised questions about the composition of the ticket and the role it may have played in the electoral outcome.
Blay, however, stressed the importance of respecting the broader democratic will of the party: “But if the people say otherwise, so be it.”
