NPP Ashanti Caucus urges govt to address fire outbreaks in the Region

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Ashanti Caucus has called on the Minister of the Interior, Mohammed Muntaka Mubarak, to investigate the recurring fire outbreaks in the Ashanti Region insisting on the implementation of comprehensive measures to prevent further incidents.

They emphasized that the region, as a major economic hub, cannot continue to suffer from such disasters without a decisive response from authorities.

Their call follows a devastating fire outbreak at Adum, in the heart of Kumasi’s Central Business District, which destroyed several shops and properties on Friday, March 21. The fire also left two individuals, including a fire officer, with varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement released on March 21, amid the ongoing fire incident, the caucus urged urgent government action to protect lives, livelihoods, and investments in the region.

The group also expressed concerns over the challenges faced by the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) in responding to fire outbreaks.

They attributed these struggles to a lack of modern firefighting equipment, inadequate water supply infrastructure, and insufficient personnel.

“Once again, we stand in solidarity with all those affected and assure them of our unwavering support as we push for swift government intervention to address these persistent fire outbreaks.” the statement concluded.
