Elections are about ideas, not violence – Dr. Bawumia
Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has called on Ghanaian voters to prioritise peace before, during, and after the upcoming December 7 general elections.
Addressing congregants in various churches within the Weija-Gbawe Constituency in the Greater Accra Region on Sunday, September 1, Dr. Bawumia emphasised the importance of maintaining peace, stating that while elections are crucial in shaping the nation’s future, they should focus on the exchange of ideas rather than violence.
Accompanied by NPP Parliamentary aspirant Jerry Ahmed Shaib, Greater Accra Regional Minister Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Anyaa-Sowutuom MP Dr Dickson Adomako Kissi, former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyapong, and other party leaders, Dr Bawumia visited several churches, including the Hills Pentecostal Church, Mandela Assembly of the Church of Pentecost, New Jerusalem Presbyterian Church, and the Ayigbe Town District of the Church of Pentecost. He also stopped by the Disciples of Christ Ministries, led by Apostle Mrs. Lilian Kumah.
During his visits, Dr. Bawumia referenced Matthew 19:26, urging the clergy to pray for the country, for him, and for the NPP’s parliamentary aspirants.
In the Anyaa-Sowutuom Constituency, Dr. Bawumia was warmly received by traders and pedestrians at the Ablekuma-Pokuase intersection, where he shared his “Bold Solutions” message. He assured supporters that, if elected President, he would create employment opportunities by training a million youth in digital skills.
Dr. Bawumia also engaged with local clergy, imams, chiefs, and opinion leaders at Pentecost University, where he discussed the government’s policies, including the Free SHS and free technical and vocational education training programs.
He highlighted the significance of restoring nursing and teacher training allowances and the construction of Agenda 111 hospitals.
Moreover, Dr. Bawumia underscored the government’s introduction of the Zongo Development Fund, which aims to develop Zongo communities through ICT centers, improved sanitation, and scholarships for students from these communities to study medicine in Cuba.
