5 Pick Forms To Contest Manhyia South NPP Primary; Chairman Tom Tom Assures Of Free, Fair Polls
Five persons have picked forms to contest the Manhyia South parliamentary primary.
This followed the elevation of the incumbent Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh a.k.a. Napo to the party’s presidential running mate.
The aspiring parliamentary candidates procured a nomination form after the payment of a non-refundable application fee of GHc3,000.
The primary will take place on Sunday, July 14, 2024.
Aspirants
The constituency chairman of the party, Richard Agyei Mensah Ofori Atta named the five as Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh, who works with Ghana National Petroleum Corporation (GNPC); Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah, a private legal practitioner; James Owusu Boakye; Akwasi Coker Gyambibi; and Kwadwo Amankwa Antwi.

Speaking on Asempa FM’s Ekosiisen afternoon show from the Manhyia South Constituency in Kumasi on Monday, July 8, 2024, Chairman Tom Tom said the contest appears to be a straight fight between Nana Owusu Afriyie Prempeh who is a brother of Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, and Nana Agyei Baffour Awuah.
Democratic principles
Responding to a question by the host Omanhene Kwabena Asante on why Napo’s brother is contesting the primary, Chairman Tom Tom said there is nothing wrong with that.
He explained that once he is qualified to do so nothing bars him from contesting. He cited the example of how Napo took over from his grand uncle, Dr Kwame Addo Kufuor as MP for the then Manhyia constituency, pointing out that, the NPP is a democratic party and will live by its principles.
Free, fair election
The Manhyia South Constituency chairman emphasized that, everything will be done to ensure a free and fair polls. “As constituency chairman, my duty is to ensure that the election is conducted in a free and fair manner,” he stated pointing out that the choice of parliamentary candidate rests with the delegates.
