Nkrumah’s Hometown, Nkroful Welcomes NAPO With Love
The chiefs and people of Nkroful, the hometown of Ghana’s first President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah came alive on Friday, August 9 when the NPP presidential running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh visited the town to pay homage to the traditional authority.
The running mate was in Nzemaland on a campaign tour and also visited Benyin, Elubo, Axim and Nsein, where he held separate interactions with the chiefs and people.
Napo, as the running mate is popularly known, used the visit to Nkroful to address the misunderstanding that arose from a speech he made in Kumasi in which he made reference to the first President.
Crowds of enthusiastic NPP supporters welcomed him to Nkroful and Nzemaland in the Western Region.
NPP and Nkrumah
In a speech, Dr Opoku Prempeh said there is no way he would denigrate the first President.
He asserted that the NPP recognizes the contributions of Nkrumah to the development of the country.
Napo pointed out that, no government has honoured the memory of the first President better than the NPP government.
Personal Experience
As a person, Napo said he lived with Nzema people when he was growing up, and his respect for the people is real. Napo said people misconstrued what he said in Kumasi, for which reason, he asked the chiefs and people to forgive and forget.
Acceptance
Responding, the chief of Nkroful, Nana Kwasi Kutua said he and his people had put the past behind them. He said his people are peaceful and would not do anything to paint them in bad light.
Petroleum Hub Project
Addressing various meetings in the towns, Napo spoke on the NPP government’s agenda for jobs for the people in the region through the Petroleum Hub Project, which has the $12 billion phase one agreement signed, and about to take off. The project aims to provide 780,000 jobs. “The NPP record on the development of the Western region remains unassailable,” he stated and urged the people to vote massively for Dr Mahamudu Bawumia for a further improvement in their lives.
He later attended the NPP campaign team inauguration of the Evalue Ajomoro Gwira constituency.
