London Bullion Market Association Discusses Responsible Mining In Ghana

Representatives of the London Bullion Market Association (LBMA) are in Ghana to discuss responsible small scale mining with Ghanaian authorities .

On Monday, May, 27, 2024 they met with the Advisor on Mines to the Minister, Benjamin Aryee where critical issues were discussed.

Issues discussed
The meeting, among other pertinent issues, discussed challenges in the fight against illegal small scale mining, mining exploration rights, community mining scheme, and measures to ensure responsible mining through a legal structure approved by the LBMA with focus on four African countries including Ghana.

 

Other visits
The team which has already visited the Precious Minerals Marketing Company (PMMC), will also pay similar visits to the Minerals Commission and the Minerals Income Investment Fund (MIIF) to hold similar engagements with the hope that these engagements will help them better understand and appreciate Ghana’s mining industry.

Illegalities
According to the Ministry of Mines and Natural Resources, conscious efforts are being made by the government to rid the industry of illegalities.
