It is easier for NPP to secure 85% votes in Ashanti with Bawumia as Presidential Candidate — NAPO

The NPP’s determination to secure 85% of the votes in the Ashanti Region is no fluke, presidential running mate of the party, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh has stated.

He said anybody who understands elections will attest to the fact that it is easier for the NPP to get 85% of the votes in the Ashanti Region with Dr Mahamudu Bawumia as presidential candidate than anytime in the history of the party.

Dr Opoku Prempeh, widely known as Napo, made the assertion at the inauguration of the NPP Ashanti Regional 2024 Campaign Working Committees and Women Conference, in Kumasi on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

Importance of Ashanti
Napo indicated that the NPP is an electoral machine that has defied political commentators by garnering more votes than as predicted.

Reminding party faithful of the strategic importance of the region in the NPP’s electoral fortunes, Napo urged party members to close their ranks and forge a united front with the common objective of ensuring an emphatic victory for the NPP.

NDC Disrespects Ashanti Region
Taking the fight to the NDC, Napo noted that although Ashanti Region has given the NDC a lot of votes, the party and its leaders don’t respect the region. “Before the NPP presidential primaries, former President John Mahama stood in northern Ghana to say that there was no way the party would elect a presidential candidate from the north. Now that he has been proved wrong, he and his party have changed the narrative,” Napo stated.

2016 Example
Taking a look into history, the running mate said, many pundits were of the belief that the NPP was not going to win the 2016 elections, especially as they tagged then candidate Akufo-Addo as arrogant. “But it was that time that the NPP was able to also secure the most resounding victory in the 4th Republic,” he said.

Vigorous campaign
According to Napo, the NPP will prosecute a serious door-to-door campaign nationwide towards the elections. He observed that the 2024 election comes with its dynamics, and that the NPP will prove equal to the task.
