I was encouraged seeing young people defy rains to register – NAPO

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential running mate, Dr Matthew Opoku Prempeh, has expressed excitement at the enthusiasm showed by young people in the just-ended mop-up voter registration exercise.

On the first day of the exercise, the running mate, popularly known as NAPO, visited registration centres on UPSA, University of Ghana and GIMPA Campuses in the Madina and Ayawaso West Wuogon constituencies to observe proceedings.

Satisfaction
He expressed satisfaction at the enthusiasm showed by the young people in the exercise even in the rains. “It was encouraging to see young men and women defy the rains to get their names onto the electoral register to be able exercise their franchise in December,“ he stated on his social media handles.

NPP commitment
He said the NPP is committed to free, fair and transparent elections in December. “For us in the NPP, we have always viewed elections as a process and not an event and thus, remain committed to every step towards a free, fair and transparent elections in December,” he stated.

Background
The Electoral Commission’s mop-up voter registration exercise began from August 1 to August 3, 2024. The three-day exercise gave opportunity to persons who turned 18 years after the recent limited voter registration and those who could not register previously to have their names captured in the voters register. The EC targeted between 50,000 to 70,000 new voters onto the electoral roll.
