I have no interest in political office – Gabby

Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, a prominent figure in the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has clarified that he has no intention of accepting a political office.

In an interview on Channel One TV, Mr Otchere-Darko stressed that he has never held a political position within the NPP, despite being a well-known supporter of the party.

He emphasised that while he is actively involved in political discussions and advocacy, he does not consider himself a politician.

As a private legal practitioner, Mr Otchere-Darko explained that he has always focused on supporting political activism and sharing his views on political matters, rather than pursuing an official political role.

He defined a politician as someone who occupies a political office, a position he has never held.

He further highlighted that his significant contribution to politics has been through founding the Danquah Institute (DI), which is dedicated to political thought and discourse but does not equate to holding a political office.

“First of all, I’m not a politician. I have never been a politician. I have no interest in political office, I think a politician is someone who takes a political office, it’s not necessarily someone who takes a political stance. You have political views, and you may even do some political activism. But I’m not a politician.

“I have never run for office, I have never accepted political office or held an office in the NPP. The closest I have done is to be the founder of Danquah Institute, an ideological think tank, it doesn’t make me a politician.

“I’m a journalist, I have been a journalist, I’m a lawyer, I’m in the media space, the statesman Newspaper, Asaase Radio and all that, but I’m not a politician. At best a political strategist.”
