Akufo-Addo Condemns NDC For Post-Election Violence
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has accused the National Democratic Congress ( NDC) of the ongoing post-election disturbances across the country.
Describing the development as unacceptable, the President noted that it was a dent on Ghana’s democratic credentials.
Speaking at the launch of the Bicentennial Anniversary of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) in Accra on Sunday, December 22, 2024, President Akufo-Addo said reports of violence, including the destruction of public property and attacks on offices and materials belonging to the Electoral Commission (EC) were distasteful. “It is particularly regrettable that these unfortunate disturbances appeared to involve some executives and sympathizers of the victorious party, the National Democratic Congress,” the President stated.
Police inaction
President Akuffo-Addo also expressed concern about the seeming inaction by the police against the vandalism.
Although he commended the security service, especially the police for the effective monitoring of the elections which ensured a peaceful nature, he nevertheless asked the leadership of the police to review their practices that allow post-electoral violence to linger for too long before it is brought under control.
Peace
President Akufo-Addo emphasized the need for peace and order to uphold Ghana’s democratic credentials and ensure national stability. “As a nation, we must be resolute in our commitment to safeguarding peace, stability and democratic values that we have worked so hard to establish,” he said.
President Akufo-Addo highlighted the transformative initiatives and economic progress his government has undertaken to elevate the nation. The outgoing President expressed confidence that future generations will recognize and appreciate his legacy.
