Faith-based organizations will receive tax exemption – Dr. Bawumia

The Flagbearer and Vice President of Ghana, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, has stated that his government, will repeal duty fees and tax charges on essentials for all the faith-based organisations in the country.

Dr. Bawumia said these faith-based organization have made positive impacts, adding that many schools and hospitals in the country are being constructed through the initiatives and visions of faith-based organisations.

The Vice President was addressing the Faith-based organizations, party faithfuls and enthusiasts at Akyem Oda on Tuesday, August 20.

“Faith-based organizations, he said have contributed a lot to the development of Ghana. We can’t take that away from them. If they take away their schools, Ghana will collapse in a second. So, what I want to do is that we want to collaborate with them in Governance because they are the real development partners.

“But what I don’t understand is that, why would we take duty charges from these organizations, who are doing the most for the development of Ghana.

“We allow foreign development partners not to pay duty charges when they import things into the country for a project but we take charges from faith-based organizations. That can’t happen. It’s highly unacceptable”, he said.

On his part, the Sectoral Head Pastor of the Presbyterian Church in Akyem Oda, Rev. Sarfo Kantanka advocated to the Vice President to allow the Christian organisations to re-manage the affairs of the orthodox schools.

He said, the organisations will be able to rekindle and instill good morals in the wards to repair the recent increasing immorality in some school children.
