‘Why Are You Getting Jittery About 2028 Elections?’ — Kpebu questions Mahama over EC appointments

Private legal practitioner Martin Kpebu says the recent appointment of two known NDC persons as Deputy Commissioners of the Electoral Commission (EC) suggests that President John Dramani Mahama is getting jittery about the 2028 elections. “You won the 2024 elections by over 1.7 million votes, so why are you getting jittery?” he asked.

Speaking on TV3’s Key Points on Saturday, October 17, Kpebu accused Mahama of “resetting and reversing,” saying he is not afraid to call it as it is.

He said that when Mahama was in opposition, he opposed the appointment of Appiahene and Salima as Commissioners of the EC, and wondered why he would turn around and appoint well-known NDC persons to the commission.

Kpebu then challenged tv3 to play the video of what Mahama said in opposition against such appointments, but the host of the show refused.
“I don’t fear NDC attacking me for what I am saying,” Kpebu fired.

He said that if President Mahama was going to pursue such a path, “then some of us are already losing hope in him.” “This appointment is an embarrassment; it’s terrible,” he said. He said the appointments weaken the independence of the EC.
